A photographic and historical archive of shakuhachi maker marks.

Windwheel is an independent research project dedicated to documenting and identifying the marks, seals, and inscriptions found on Japanese shakuhachi.

The database brings together historical records, photographs of surviving instruments, and contributions from makers, collectors, musicians, and researchers.

The public database is currently under development.

We welcome information, historical documents, and photographs that may contribute to the identification and preservation of shakuhachi maker marks. Photograph publication is subject to rights-holder permission.
